This school furniture project for St Leonards CofE Primary School was completed to a high specification within a very tight timeframe.
Envoplan were first called to consult to “prepare designs” to St Leonard’s C of E School because of our expertise as manufacturers of Teaching Wall, for the classrooms in the new extension.
We had furnished the General Office several years ago, prior to the expansion programme, which had worn well. We already had a good reputation with other local schools. Envoplan met with the school many times to draw up a design which differed slightly from room to room. This school furniture project catered for all ages, from aged 3 (Nursery) to aged 10 (Year 5). The core design and finishes remained consistent throughout the scheme.
We won the project by competitive quotation. Our school furniture project expertise gave us ability to provide storage, benching, desking and classroom furniture all in matching finishes. This contributed greatly to our securing the project.
Envoplan were requested to integrate a sink with drainer and splash-back into each Teaching Wall. Where necessary it was required that we would accommodate height adjustable touch screens within the Teaching Wall. We provided detailed drawings which included the different heights for different ages and different internal fittings for different age groups.
It was imperative that we were able to work on site before practical completion. This required detailed risk assessments and method statements and compliance with all site rules of the contractor.
The new building posed challenges to the school in that the office spaces were smaller although the school was expanding to twice its original size. Envoplan was able to fit in more staff and more storage than in the original building. We even incorporated a medical station within a Storagewall unit.
Envoplan’s attention to detail and ability to solve the client’s varying needs was essential to not only securing the project, but to it’s smooth running. We were never at a loss for a solution. As this school furniture project progressed, we were requested to supply additional furniture to office areas and the library, continuing the high quality and design standards we’d originated in the classrooms. Early years staff were consulted to ensure that no stone was left unturned. We supplied sample chairs for the senior staff to try out prior to purchasing.
When unexpected issues arose, Envoplan had the resources, innovation and skills to overcome these. Two illustrations of this would be that power and data trunking was obscured by the Teaching Wall and we overcame this by providing access points. Another challenge occurred when the hot water supply to the sinks in the Teachingwalls was found to be too hot for the children to use. To solve this, we fixed thermostatic valves to all the taps.
