Rokeby School Washrooms -Brief
Founded in 1900, Rokeby School has made a name for itself by passing admirable values of respect, success and a passion for learning to its students for over a century.
These key elements all combine to make Rokeby what it is today: a school that consistently elevates education for its pupils and opens as many doors as possible on their path to the future. The school is proud of that history and its traditions, reaffirming its dedication to delivering top-tier education with first-class facilities. With all that said, every institution has room for improvement.
Staying ahead of the pack in terms of facilities is essential, from top to bottom, for a school. That’s why, after assessing their premises, the school gave out a survey to their pupils in order to hear feedback from those who use the facilities most. The results confirmed that the school’s washrooms were in dire need of a complete refurbishment, and Rokeby correctly identified a need to kickstart a renovation project to get things up to speed.
That’s where Envoplan comes in. The school proactively listened to their pupil’s feedback and approached us for a full turn-key refurbishment solution. It’s safe to say they made the right decision.
Our Challenge
As always, the challenge was one that we relished. Outdated sanitaryware, doors and visual design were all critical issues that needed resolving. With over 770 students, vandalism was another key issue when it came to maintaining the school washrooms in the long term. This is a problem that many schools understandably face and one that requires expert experience to combat.
The school was also looking to become more energy efficient – a problem that we’re proud to have experience in solving. From the taps to the hand dryers, there were a variety of ways we could bring this energy efficiency into Rokeby’s washrooms.
Introducing contemporary aesthetics was another challenge to conquer in the Rokeby project. An outdated, lagging design was undoubtedly holding back the full potential of the space. Creating a look suited to the 21st century was a key hurdle.
Envoplan's Solution
We got to work straight away with those key challenges in mind. Our team came up with a series of designs for the school washrooms, including the reconfiguration of hand wash areas to include solid surface wash troughs and a foot wash facility. These milestones were all completed to improve ease of use and hygiene efficiency.
Anti-vandal products and materials, such as SGL laminate cubicles, metal ironmongery and stainless steel dispensers, were all used to discourage vandalism. Furthermore, Armitage Shank’s reliable and high-quality sanitaryware was implemented to ensure the very best standards.
We adopted a ‘durable and easy to maintain’ mantra for the bathrooms to ensure the spaces remain in good shape for years to come. Wipe-clean hygienic wall cladding was implemented in order to enhance the efficiency of the cleaning process. Duraflor vinyl flooring was used thanks to its superb durability and cleanliness, as well as hygienic wall cladding. These materials also prevent certain areas from attracting dirt and are efficient from a cleaning perspective.
While efficiency, cleanliness and anti-vandalism are, of course, the top priorities for any washroom, the aesthetic design also played a significant role when developing our plans. Bright, white tones were used to add a lightness to the spaces, as well as ensure that the washrooms don’t lose their modern look in the future.
The project delivery was a success. The complete refurbishment of all pupil washrooms in the school was finished within the 6-week holiday period. The results pulled a portion of Rokeby’s facilities into the 21st century, giving their students top-class washrooms for use all year round. Interested to see more?
