Royal Masonic School Boarding House and Pastoral Hub Refurbishment

Boarding House and Pastoral Hub Transformation

Brief

The existing boarding spaces at Royal Masonic School were extremely tired and dated and they needed to commence a programme of refurbishment and renovation. As part of this project we also created a new pastoral office within a disused debating chamber.

Challenge

The creation of the pastoral hub was a very challenging assignment as the room had to remain as a split level space and we needed to fit in 6 staff, storage and 2 separate meeting spaces! The task involved stripping out the existing facility and completing a full refurbishment.

Solution

Working closely with the school on the boarding space refurbishment we developed a stunning design scheme which is both modern and homely. The use of fresh, light coloured furniture which is robust and easy to maintain has worked very well and the feedback from the students has been extremely positive.

We also redesigned and refurbished the common room area to create a welcoming and relaxing space for the students to enjoy for both informal study and recreation. The space was divided into zones through the use of a room screening storage system and varied floor coverings. The finished result has been very well received by students and staff alike and is a truly enjoyable place to be

For the pastoral hub, our interior design team created a coordinated scheme that was warm and welcoming whilst remaining practical and professional. We created a clever storage solution by taking advantage of the split levels within the room.

As part of the project process we supported the school through onsite visits by our interior design team, a workshop session at our London design centre followed by a roadshow visit to the school which enabled staff and students alike to see and trial furniture in the comfort of their own surroundings.
