This characterful junior school dining space makes eating more enjoyable for the students at this French school. Bon Appetit!
The project scope included a detailed design phase, through to final fit-out and installation. This was a full turn-key project, and was completed within the school holidays.
This French independent school had an outdated Junior dining space that was in need of a refresh. The wanted to create an inspiring dining environment that also encouraged the students to eat healthily and have more awareness of the benefits of good food.
The existing space was becoming dated. The poor levels of light, worn decor and issues with acoustic management were not beneficial to the students, so it was time for a refresh!
We helped the client develop a theme through a collaborative design process. We involved the head chef and other stakeholders in the design process, to ensure all aspects of the space were considered. By creating a number of different design concepts, the school was able to choose the final scheme. Other design themes included a nautical concept, a concept that celebrated the great outdoors, and then the favourite, of a French street café scene.
The new dining hall space plan maintained the overall capacity of the space, but offered the school a more spacious feel and better layout. Using different zones within the space helps with manage the people flow within the space at busy times.
The bespoke leaf-shaped acoustic ceiling panels help to reduce the reverberation of sound within the space, thereby controlling noise levels. Stackable chairs mean that the space is easy to reconfigure and clean.
To complete the authentic French café-feel we installed replica lampposts and characterful wall graphics. The careful choice of finishes and imagery resulted in an inspirational yet durable environment for this junior dining hall redesign scheme.
One of the pupils even commented that he felt like he was back home in France!
